Which Clear Aligner is Better? Invisalign® or Spark™

Are you looking for an alternative to metal braces that you can really smile about?

When it comes to top quality orthodontic care, metal braces are a trusted and reliable choice. They’ve been around in some form for centuries, and modern metal braces are better than ever. In fact, they are the only option for treating the most severe cases of tooth gaps or misalignment.

Modern metal braces are also enjoyed by many of our patients at Beauchamp Orthodontics. That’s because Dr. Beauchamp offers unique “small form factor” braces that use between 30% and 50% less material than ordinary braces. They are just as helpful for orthodontic health, but much more subtle!

Still, there are some great alternatives to braces.

Many adults, teens, and even responsible kids may qualify for clear plastic aligners.

What Are Clear Plastic Aligners?

Clear plastic aligner is a general term for a removable orthodontic treatment that slips over your teeth. These convenient orthodontic appliances are incredibly discreet thanks to the materials they are made from. Many patients tell us that even people they’re having a face-to-face conversation with don’t notice them. The two main options are known as Invisalign® and Spark™? and both are designed to correct misalignment and boost your confidence with the smile you’ll have after treatment is complete.

All About Invisalign® Clear Plastic Aligners

Invisalign® is the “clear alternative” to ordinary braces that has been around for many years now. In fact, it was first approved by the FDA all the way back in 1998. In the nearly 30 years since, Invisalign® has helped millions of patients get a healthy and beautiful smile that helps them feel more confident.

Invisalign® has been wildly successful around the world and is one of the most trusted orthodontic treatments you can find. Although it cannot be used to treat the most serious orthodontic issues, it is appropriate for most situations. Plus, teens and even some responsible kids can qualify.

If you’re interested in Invisalign®, Dr. Beauchamp will start you off with a complete orthodontic examination. If your condition is one that responds favorably to Invisalign®, then you can get started right away. The process is quick and painless, starting with Dr. Beauchamp getting images of your teeth and gums.

These images are used to make your very own set of Invisalign® aligners.

It takes only a week or two for your Invisalign® aligners to be fabricated, then you can pick them up right here at your Port Orange orthodontist. Dr. Beauchamp will show you how they work and answer any questions you might have. From there, you’ll wear them most of every day to keep your treatment on track.

One of the reasons Invisalign® is so popular is that there are almost no potential side effects. Some patients may feel a little bit of discomfort for the first 2-3 days as their gums adjust, but this will disappear completely. If there are any problems with fit or discomfort that last more than a week, call Dr. Beauchamp for a solution!

Thanks to their longer history and great track record, Invisalign® is our preferred treatment.

What About Spark™ Clear Aligners?

Spark™? clear aligners are relatively new, receiving FDA approval in 2021.

The concept of Spark™ is similar to Invisalign®: They are removable, clear aligners that fit over the teeth. They can be taken off for cleaning or to stay safe while playing sports. They are a little bit different, however, thanks to a few twists on the idea of the aligner.

Spark™ claims to use advanced materials that make the aligners even more subtle and transparent. They can also be used by adults, as well as some kids and teens. They may be a little harder for kids to break accidentally and a little faster to replace in the event a set is broken.

Because Spark™ aligners use slightly less material, they can be more comfortable for some patients. They are also designed to stain less, even for patients who drink a lot of beverages like coffee, soda, or wine – all of the drinks known to cause stains to both tooth enamel and aligners.
